Do I need any permit or ILP to visit Assam?

No, Indian citizens do NOT need any ILP (Inner Line Permit) or special permit to visit Assam. Unlike Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Mizoram, Assam is freely accessible. However, foreign nationals need a valid Indian visa — and if visiting restricted areas near the Myanmar/Bhutan border, a special Restricted Area Permit (RAP) may be required. For Kaziranga safari, you only need to book tickets online or at the gate.

No ILP for Indians Valid Visa for Foreigners RAP for Border Areas

Pro Tip: If you're combining Assam with Arunachal Pradesh or Nagaland, you WILL need ILP. We help arrange all permits for combo Northeast trips!

When does Kaziranga National Park open and close?

Kaziranga National Park opens on 1st November and closes on 30th April every year. It remains closed during the monsoon season (May–October) due to heavy flooding of the Brahmaputra. The park has 4 ranges — Central (Kohora), Western (Bagori), Eastern (Agoratoli) & Burapahar. Jeep safaris operate in the early morning (5:30 AM) and afternoon (1:30 PM) slots. Elephant safaris happen only in the Central Range at dawn.

05
Can I see the one-horned rhinoceros in Assam?

Yes! Assam is the best place on Earth to see the Indian one-horned rhinoceros. Kaziranga National Park alone hosts over 2,600+ rhinos — that's two-thirds of the world's entire population. You can also spot rhinos at Manas National Park, Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary (highest rhino density per square km), and Orang National Park. Rhino sighting success rate in Kaziranga is nearly 100% during peak season.

Majuli is the world's largest river island, located in the Brahmaputra River, Assam. It's a living cultural treasure with 500-year-old Vaishnavite monasteries (Sattras), traditional mask-making artisans, Mishing tribal villages, and organic farming. To reach Majuli, drive from Jorhat (305 KM from Guwahati) to Nimati Ghat, then take a government ferry (1–1.5 hours) across the Brahmaputra. The island has simple homestays and eco-lodges — perfect for a peaceful cultural immersion.

Premium vessels like MV Mahabaahu and ABN Charaidew offer fine dining, cultural performances, guided nature walks, and onboard naturalists. You'll sail past river dolphins, wild elephants, migratory birds, and witness some of the most spectacular sunsets on the planet.

What is the best way to travel within Assam between cities?

Private cab is the best and most comfortable way to travel between Assam's cities. Roads like NH27 and NH37 are well-maintained national highways. Key distances: Guwahati → Kaziranga (250 KM, 5 hrs), Kaziranga → Jorhat (100 KM, 2.5 hrs), Jorhat → Majuli ferry (15 KM, 30 min). State buses (ASTC) are available but uncomfortable for tourists. Trains connect Guwahati, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia but are slower than road. Internal flights between Guwahati–Jorhat–Dibrugarh save time on longer routes.

Private Cab (Best) Train (Budget) Flights (Fastest)

Pro Tip: We provide air-conditioned Innova Crysta / Ertiga for the entire trip with experienced local drivers who know every route. One cab, entire Assam — zero hassle!
